I'd like to begin by stating that every child will experience illness. According to doctors, a child typically catches 6 colds annually. So, do NOT worry if your child gets sick.

Here are methods to help reduce your child's symptoms, shorten the duration of their illness, and prevent their colds from worsening:

Rest & Relaxation

Ensuring plenty of rest is crucial for overall health and recovery, especially when dealing with congestion or respiratory issues. Adequate sleep allows the body to heal and regenerate, providing the immune system with the necessary resources to combat any underlying infections or inflammation.

In addition to rest, incorporating warm baths into your routine can be incredibly soothing. The warmth of the water helps to relax tense muscles, while the steam produced can open up the airways, making it easier for your child to breathe. Adding essential oils such as eucalyptus to your bath or humidifier can enhance the effects. Eucalyptus oil is known for its decongestant properties, which can help to clear nasal passages and promote easier breathing.

Hydration

Making sure your child has an adequate intake of liquids is crucial particularly during times when the body may be under stress or fighting off illness.

A variety of hydrating options can help, including homemade broths and soups, which not only provide hydration but also deliver essential nutrients and minerals that support the immune system. These broths can be made from a variety of ingredients, such as vegetables, herbs, chicken and/ or bones, simmered for hours to extract their rich flavours and can help with gut health too.

Consuming 100% pure juices can also contribute to hydration. Opting for juices made from fresh fruits and vegetables ensures your child is getting the maximum nutritional value of vitamins and antioxidants without added sugars or preservatives.

Teas are another excellent choice for hydration, providing warmth and comfort.

Chamomile & Lemon balm tea are well-known for their calming properties, making them a perfect choice for relaxation and sleep.

Warm water with lemon and honey provides a boost of vitamin C and antibacterial properties from the honey.

Supplements

Echinacea which is a powerful supplements for kids when they have a cold

Along with a nutritious diet, you can boost your child's immune system with these essential supplements:

Probiotics: These aid in developing healthy gut flora, which combats viruses and harmful bacteria. Probiotics can also help with limiting gastrointestinal viruses. If your child's gut flora is weak, they are more susceptible to infections and viruses. Focusing on your child's gut health will benefit their immune system in the long run.
